Spinning Heads and Mexico Prep

Teaching a class every Monday, preaching at To Every Tribe chapel every Tuesday, leading a mentoring group, developing/overseeing the new mentoring program for the Center for Pioneer Church Planting (CPCP), leading a church planting team in Northern Mexico, attending some of the classes in the CPCP, working with new friends who live in the Valley on planting a church here in the Rio Grande Valley, coaching Ethan and Titus’ soccer team, hosting other missionary trainees for dinner…Our heads are spinning with all that God is allowing us to do right now!!!

I took this one of the team walking down one of the roads in the village. Unfortunately we have to be very careful with the pics we post so as to not expose which village it is for our own safety and that of the villagers due to c*rtel presence in the surrounding area.

I took this one of the team walking down one of the roads in the village. I love these guys and I am privileged to lead them!

Our team will go back to village EZ on Monday to continue the church planting work there. It seems like very difficult ground with not much interest in the gospel among the adults there. The people in this village are consumed with TV and the cares of this world (sounds familiar, right?). It’s funny because on the surface they appear (by American standards) pretty poor and much different than an American family yet our culture of constant TV and apathy toward spiritual things has managed to infiltrate this fairly remote village in Northern Mexico.

The team and me (Trevor) will be trying to spend time teaching Bible stories to the children (hoping to grow up a strong church through that generation!!!), connecting with the teens/young people through soccer, meeting as many people as possible seeking to build gospel-oriented relationships, and leading an outreach Bible study. Please pray for our evangelistic efforts and good conversations. Most of all, pray that people will be saved! I have written my testimony out in Spanish so I can share it with people we know and others we meet. Others on the team have prepared some thoughts/teaching from Scripture and gospel presentations.

There are three believing families in the village so the team will work hard to be a blessing and encouragement to them as well. Also, Betsy will be watching a child of another mother here so she can go into Mexico with her husband’s team. Our team desperately needs your prayer!

Some key points to pray through:
1. Courage and boldness for the gospel
2. That the Lord of the harvest multiplies the team’s efforts
3. Soft and expectant hearts ready to respond to the gospel
4. The believers would be encouraged and refreshed by our team
5. Safety as we travel through Northern Mexico to get to and from the village
6. The kids and Betsy would have a fun and peaceful time at home

It was fitting that as we go through Mark in our family worship tonight we came to the following passage, “And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37 For what can a man give in return for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels’ ” (Mark 8:34-38).

  1. That’s one of the things that I was most disheartened by during our trip last January…. With all of the apparent physical need, it seemed every dwelling had a satellite dish… We will be praying earnestly for this next trip into EZ. Love and miss you brother!

  2. We will definitely be praying, Trevor. Thanks again for the updates! We miss you all, but trust that God is and will continue to use you for His glory among the nations! So excited to see how He works through you!
